Many people dream of working from home for various reasons; less commuting time, freedom to choose their working hours, child care issues etc.
The Covid 19 pandemic has forced us to reassess the way we work and live. More and more people are now working from home and a large proportion are finding this a rewarding experience.
How has this impacted on your life?
A student recently told me she was enjoying it; her life balance has improved, and she was benefitting from the independence. Is this the way forward and the “new normal”?
Distance learning has been around for many years. When I was young, people used to study late at night or early in the morning by watching university lectures on tv for a course with the Open University. They didn’t meet the lecturers or other participants until they maybe had a chance to go to a summer school once a year. I have also done a post graduate diploma online with the same organisation. Although, it was intensive and hard work, it was stimulating and productive.
Online study gave me the chance to complete a course without giving up my job and the need to be away from my family.
So, is the move to online English courses so different?
Different? Not really but better, definitely!
Today, we have all the tools to help us; Zoom, Teams, Google Hangouts, Skype and so on. We are able to see our student and work colleagues and interact with them. We can recreate the physical classroom and atmosphere online, with instant reaction and feedback. We can enjoy that virtual coffee break with each other but from the comfort of our own home, office or hotel room.
We are able to plan our studies around our life or plan our life around our studies. We can make that decision and maintain control of our timetable. So, what is the next step?
Why not take a course at Business English Training and embrace the “new normal.” You may surprise yourself.
